Why I do this
I have ADHD, and one thing I've learned about myself is simple: if I can't see something, I don't use it. Out of sight really does mean out of mind. Things get pushed to the back of a cupboard and forgotten, and before long, I'd end up with duplicates of things I already owned.
That realisation changed how I live. I started giving everything a proper home — one place, not five — and made a habit of actually putting things away, not just putting them down.
Now I get so much more joy from the things I own, because I can actually see and use them. I've swapped the buzz of buying new things for the buzz of a clear, calm space — and once you feel that shift, it's hard to go back!
I also Airbnb my own home, which has pushed me to keep things minimal — everything needs to be easy to tidy away between guests. It's taught me that less really is more.
I've been organising and decluttering part-time for a few years, and I've now taken the leap to do it full-time, across Surrey and beyond. If you're a bit further out, don't rule it out — between visiting friends in the area and my trusty camper van, I get around more than you'd think.
